Talented Year 5 pupil receives Odey Scholarship

A pupil from Kings Heath Primary Academy has been awarded a scholarship to help him pursue his talent for motocross.

Tyler Ethridge, age 9, was awarded the Odey Scholarship as part of a programme run by the David Ross Education Trust (DRET). Pupils and students from across the Trust can apply for a grant of up to £1,000 to support them to develop their talents in sport, music and the arts.

Tyler said: "I am so happy to have won this award as I feel it has given me a real boost to help me with my motocross. I can't wait to try my new kit and win some more races."

The Year 5 pupil, who came second in the Junior Arenacross UK Tour this year, is hoping to use the sponsorship money to enter more major competitions.

Mr Wood, PE Teacher at Kings Heath Primary Academy, said: “This scholarship has given Tyler the opportunity to fulfill his ambition, and that is to try and win the Arenacross UK Tour as well as his club championship.

“I would like to thank Mr Odey and the David Ross Education Trust for supporting Tyler to develop his performance and achieve his goals.”

Simon Northcott, Director of Enrichment for the David Ross Education Trust, commented: “As a Trust we feel it is very important to nurture and support talent and that is why scholarships like this are so significant to us. I wish Tyler all the very best in achieving his potential.”
