Kings Heath Primary Academy has an active and enthusiastic school council.
The council is elected by their classes through a democratic vote. The children who wish to run for school council will hold their own campaign and will persuade their class to vote for them. This year, the council is made up of one child per class in Years 1-6.
The council meet weekly to discuss school-wide issues and initiatives. They have the opportunity to make real changes in the school and have been awarded the Ruby Changemaker award by the University of Northampton. The children are now working towards the Emerald Changemaker award.
The children have worked with different groups around the school. Most recently, they have worked with our parent group to hold a Christmas Fayre. Other projects include leading Anti-Bullying Week; revamping the school behaviour policy and reward system; choosing new uniforms for Years 5 and 6 and helping to run the new weekly celebration assembly.
New for 2016/17 - The JLT!!
The Junior Leadership team will work with the KHPA Senior Leadership team. We will have 5 pupils from year 5 and 6 who each take responsibility for each of the 5 Ofsted strands:
- Leadership and Management
- Behaviour and Safety
- Quality of Teaching
- Achievement of pupils
- Early years
Meeting fortnightly with Mrs Owen, Business and Operations Manager to discuss the same agenda as the SLT, the JLT will have the opportunity to have a say in how the school is run and challenge the SLT on our progress.
Children will have to apply and be interviewed from their role. This is taking place now, so watch this space for the results.
